Carola studied Pharmacy at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) and obtained her license to practice pharmacy in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2025. During her practical year, she joined the group of Prof. Dr. Helm, where she discovered her strong interest in RNA analytics and epitranscriptomics. Motivated to further explore the dynamic world of RNA modifications and to broaden her expertise in cell culture, she joined Matt’s lab as a PhD candidate. Her research focuses on natural products as covalent modifiers of RNA, aiming to uncover novel mechanisms and expand our understanding of RNA biology.

Outside the lab, she enjoys staying active by playing volleyball and going on hikes and can often be found at social evenings involving board games, good company, and the occasional well-crafted cocktail.
